Daydream Disco @ Cafe 1001, Brick Lane

While Cafe 1001 in Brick Lane is not a renowned venue for musos, nor is it viewed as a particularly cool place to visit, but it’s live DJs have been attracting large crowds for a good time, and this is really what live music is all about surely?

This Friday night, the upper levels are packed, the bar thronged with patrons waiting for their cocktails. Daydream Disco, a DJ duo from Southampton specialising in remixes of classic disco tunes, are bringing the vibes in spades. Whilst their remixes are not massively transformative, they are nicely done and fitting for a modern crowd, evident by the cheers that erupt for the ‘Disco Inferno’ remix.

The crowd extends right up to the decks, with photographers and friends flitting by the busy DJs periodically. The retro feel is palpable - I feel like I’m at a club night years ago. A fun evening of escapism, whilst it’s potentially not as edgy as an evening of jump up ot techno, the vibes are impeccable. With events going on almost every day over the next month, I will almost certainly be returning.
